PlayStation VR Launch Titles

Here's all the games available for PSVR at launch.

This month will see Sony move into the emerging world of virtual reality with the release of its PlayStation VR headset. Going up against competitors such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Sony is hoping to put its stamp on the new genre in an accessible way. Although the hardware is always important, what will really set PS VR apart is the games. Here are some of the titles that will be available at launch on October 13.

Playstation VR Worlds: This five-strong collection of VR experiences is designed to show you what the headset is capable of, with a variety of experiences like VR Luge and Danger Ball available to test your VR skills, and with high scores you can challenge you friends with.

Batman: Arkham VR: The world of Arkham has been faithfully recreated in virtual reality and sees you step into the shoes of the Caped Crusader to solve a murder mystery surrounding one of his closest allies. A game to really let you be the Batman.

Battlezone: Tank battling has never placed you in the cockpit like this. Drive around, battle tanks and traverse Rebellion's neon world in a randomly generated campaign, with upgrades and a whole variety of weapons to choose from as well.

RIGS Mechanized Combat League: Mechanised combat meets competitive sports in this PlayStation VR title where you play as heavily armed sports machines hoping to defeat your opponents on the road to fame and fortune. For those with a strong stomach and an appetite for fast-paced action.

Here They Lie: Here They Lie looks to put players on the edge of their seats as they explore mysterious underground tunnels and encounter strange and unsettling creatures down there in the darkness. Horror gaming for those who can handle the atmosphere.

Eve: Valkyrie: Players will battle their way through intense 360-degree combat across a star system. Head-tracked weapons systems, unrestricted fields of view, and competitive online co-op multiplayer all feature, as well as intense, fast-paced action.

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood: An Until Dawn spin-off, but this time, instead of making decisions and keeping a group of characters alive, players will be blasting their way through enemies in what hopes to be tense VR experience. It is quite literally an on-rails shooter.

Driveclub VR: Sony has brought Evolution's racer into virtual reality this month. This won't be for those looking for a static experience, far from it, but for those that can handle the high speed antics on offer there's much to look forward to when you hit the road.

100ft Robot Golf: Have you ever wanted to be a giant robot playing golf in a city? Well this game lets you do that, knocking down buildings as you do so, and all in the world of VR too. Colourful crazy action for both single and multiplayer fun with up to four people.

Ace Banana: This arcade-style VR shooter tasks players with using their archery skills to protect their banana stash from mischievous monkeys. Face wave after wave of enemies either alone or with friends in this charming cartoony game.

Bound: 3D platformer Bound is coming to PSVR, and it's a mature narrative experience that has experienced success on the PS4 already. This experimental game is sure to give something new to VR, if our previous time with the game is anything to go by.

Harmonix Music VR: Using 3D reactive art, this game merges your music into the world of VR. Experience your music library in a variety of situations and even start dance parties with the characters you come across, using your music to create a personalised experience.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X: This rhythm action game has only recently been released on the PlayStation 4 and now players can experience the fun in the world of VR too, the intense and colourful action sure to please existing fans and give them something new to love.

Headmaster: Using the head motion of the player, Headmaster tasks you with heading balls into goals, aiming at targets, piñatas and a whole load of other crazy things. The dry humour in this also helps create an individual experience.

Hustle Kings VR: A variety of game modes are on offer here, including eight-ball pool and snooker. There are 1v1 league matches, tournaments and daily challenges for those seeking to up their game too, as well as highly detailed rooms and tables.

Job Simulator: This isn't so much about doing your job properly as about causing mayhem in this bizarre experience where a lot of crazy things are going on at once. This funny, friendly experience looks set to cause a lot of laughs when players jump into it.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: The concept is simple: one person is in VR defusing a bomb and others are not seeing anything but have the instruction manual. The execution is far from easy though. Take your trusted friends and hope they have the skills to keep you both alive.

Loading Human: This sci-fi adventure game promises to create immersive storytelling through the medium of VR, tasking players with exploring and interacting with the world around them. Episode 1 is due out soon, and we can't wait to see what's in store.

Super Stardust VR: Housemarque's fantastic arcade shooter has been updated and adapted for VR. A new first-person VR mode should give high score chasing players something to think about, and if the original is anything to go by, we'll have a lot of fun.

Rez Infinite: One of the all time classic rail-shooters is set to take a bow on PSVR and the fully remastered title comes with new content made by the original dev team. Jump back into Rez in a way you've never seen before, something that should please long-time fans.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: No so much a standalone VR game, but players will be able to explore events the precede Lara's latest adventure, all in the immersive world of virtual reality, bringing a deeper, narrative element to what has been an action/adventure series. Part of the 20 Year Celebration edition of the game.

The Assembly: The Assembly is a solid adventure game that players will enjoy in VR. Two narrative strands interlink as you explore a shadowy organisation and their controversial research methods, examining the world around you as you do so.

Thumper: Another on-rails game for PSVR, Thumper is described as a "rhythm violence" game where you play as a space beetle, and it looks set to offer fans of the genre something new and intense to sink their teeth into.

Tumble VR: The PS3 Move title is coming to PSVR with new modes and puzzles, and it looks great thanks to clever design and some brain melting challenges. There's also a new multiplayer mode too, ideal if you want an extra challenge.

Playroom VR: This one's actually a free download for everyone who picks up a PS VR headset and it offers a variety of experiences for players to enjoy, and shows off what the device is capable of, the playroom characters returning again to have some fun.

Sports Bar VR: For those who want to visit a virtual sports bar with their friends, you can play skee ball, pool and all manner of other things in this virtual world. You can even build towers with bottles of beer, and you don't even have to clean up afterwards.

SuperHyperCube VR: A VR experience unlike any other, this involves tilting shapes to fit into holes while speed and intensity picks up, testing your perception of shapes and your nerves at the same time. Not for the faint hearted, but certainly offers a challenge.

Volume: Coda: As well as offering 30 new levels, this release makes it possible to play the main game in VR as well. This topdown stealth experience lets you get closer to the holographic representation of the levels, bringing a new element to the existing title.

Wayward Sky: This is a third-person single-player adventure game focused on narrative and atmosphere. There is some light puzzle solving here and the game has been designed to help ease players into VR as they explore this floating world.

World War Toons:
This cartoony take on popular world war thematics may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the prospect of a steel-jawed Nazi shark is enough to get our attention. The cute style is almost irresistible as well, and caught our eye even more.

Waddle Home: Waddle Home is about a friendly alien who wants to save some penguins. Doing so means you're going to have to solve some puzzles, and it's something for the more casual crowd who prefer puzzling to shooting.

Resident Evil 7: Kitchen Demo (a free demo): Players will get a taste of Resident Evil 7's atmosphere in the brief "Kitchen" demo that premiered at E3 2015 (but has since been expanded upon). It's largely non-interactive, but should give you an idea of the immersion that the main game can hopefully achieve.

Eve: Gunjack: While Valkyrie is more of a fully fledged title, Gunjack offers a smaller scale arcade-style experience where the player is tasked with dodging missiles and shooting enemies using the headtracking, a little like a VR version of Galaga.

Demo Disc: Bringing back memories of yesteryear and our own experiences with demo discs, it's also worth noting that the headset comes with one that includes eight different games (in the UK at least, check your local territories for confirmation if you're based elsewhere). Try out short teasers for RIGS, VR Worlds, Driveclub VR, Tumble VR, Battlezone, Eve: Valkyrie, Headmaster, and Wayward Sky.

In regards to specifications for PlayStation VR, the resolution of the headset is 1920x1080, with 960x1080 per eye. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz or 90 Hz, a field of view of approximately 100 degrees, an OLED presentation mode and weights 610g, excluding the cable. The sensors it uses are three-axis gyroscope and three-axis accelerometer as well, and players should bare in mind that a 365g processing unit comes with the system as well.

Price-wise, the PlayStation VR itself is £349.00, but you will also need to PlayStation Camera which costs roughly £40.00. Not only that, but some games will require two PlayStation Move controllers, costing £69.00 for a twin pack. So if you want the optimum experience for PlayStation VR, your £349.00 will turn into around £460.00 if you buy the extra hardware new.
