New Sonic game to be unveiled next month

The game is expected next year.

2016 is a very important year for Sonic, with the supersonic blue hedgehog celebrating his 25th birthday. Next July 22 an important event called Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Party is expected in San Diego, where - as announced by Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka, during a similar event in Tokyo - the next game in the series will be finally unveiled, and its launch is scheduled for 2017.

The event - as announced by Iizuka himself - will be livestreamed via Twitch, so we can expect a substantial reveal. At the moment, we haven't got any more details about the reveal, but since this year is a very special one for the series, and given the fact that the last few games in the franchise haven't been particularly memorable, our fingers are crossed for a game that doesn't focus on werewolves and some of Sonic's not so memorable friends.

Anyway, we'll all know more in less than a month's time.
