During E3, at Sony's press conference, Insomniac Games and Marvel's new games division announced a new game, exclusive to PlayStation 4, dedicated to Spider-Man. This game - as repeatedly stated by the VP of Games at Marvel, Jay Ong - marks the beginning of a new era for games based on Marvel franchises, as they won't be linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This should leave the developers more freedom as they don't need to match the movies, and won't need to time their releases with cinematic releases.

This initiative marks undoubtedly a major step forward for Marvel, especially when you consider the many game projects that haven't lived up to expectations. Among these projects, one that never saw the light of day, was a a video game fully dedicated to Daredevil, being developed in the early 2000s by 5,000ft, but subsequently canned as a result of creative divergences between Marvel and Sony Pictures. Well known industry insider Unseen64 (later published by DidYouKnowGaming) discovered some brand new gameplay footage of this, and now we can try to reconstruct all the history behind the failed game.

In 2001, a new development team called 5,000ft started developing a game called Daredevil The Man Without Fear, a low-budget action game, it got the attention of Marvel who at the time were committed to bring Daredevil to the big screen (the movie starring Ben Affleck). The idea was to develop a tie-in game inspired by the film, and Marvel started to develop a big-budget project with 5,000ft, and this is where the problems started.

Marvel and Sony Pictures begun to interfere with the creative choices made by 5,000ft, creating several issues during the development until the painful choice was made to cancel Daredevil The Man Without Fear. The title was expected on PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox, but a Gamecube version was also planned, although work on it never actually started.
