Microsoft has announced what is coming in Gears of War 4's December update, bringing not only new content but also festive cheer when it arrives on December 6.

The two maps released last month, Checkout and Drydock, are followed by two new maps this month, both of which are given trailers. The first is called Speyer and is "a still image of pre-Locust War life." There is a whole academy with ornate interiors and plazas to explore in this map. In the second map, called Glory, you can play on a COG battery, and there's even a mounted turret that overlooks the courtyard.

These maps will be added to public playlists on December 13, while Gridlock and Relic are removed from the game. Individual maps can also be purchased on the Gears of War store for those without a season pass who want to keep maps that aren't in rotation.

The December update also includes improvements such as a daily rewards system, improved feedback for damage dealt with the Gnasher, vertical splitscreen for players on Windows 10, and improvements to footstep audio balance.

Season Pass holders also earn additional XP and rewards when playing the developer playlist when it becomes available, and Gearsmas is also coming as well. Special content can be earned by playing, including holiday heads and a new special event with "a wintery twist on a classic Gears of War weapon".

If you haven't picked the game up yet, it's 33% off from now until December 28. Will you be joining the fun this month?
