Square Enix surprised a large portion of its fanbase when it announced that Final Fantasy XV would receive a large expansion in the future, which would focus on implementing cooperative multiplayer. Since then we've only a few snippets of how that will actually work, but now director Hajime Tabata has shared a few more tidbits.

In an interview with Polygon, Tabata confirmed that the multiplayer feature does take place within the game's main narrative, but you won't be playing as the four main characters:

"There are a lot of things I can't really say about the multiplayer future just yet, but it will tie into the game — the main game — at some point in the story. And for the multiplayer feature, we are less focused on playing as the four main characters but rather as an avatar that the user creates themselves. So rather than having you and your friends play as these four guys and experience their journey again together, it's more about the journey that you and your friends have together with each other in this world."

How do you feel about creating avatars instead of playing as Noctis, Prompto, Gladio, and Ignis?

REVIEW. Written by Jonas Mäki

"It feels like the series should feel, but adapted for a modern audience, and we're so glad that Tabata pulled this massive project together in the way that he did."
