Controversial Middle-earth: Shadow of War DLC becomes free

Monolith has realised that tying donations to sales of DLC wasn't the best idea.

A few weeks ago, Monolith created quite an uproar when the studio said they wanted to immortalise the late Michael Forgey by including him in a paid Middle-earth: Shadow of War expansion and give the benefits to his family. That sounded very nice at first, but people suddenly noticed that the announcement's accompanying trailer had a small print stating that these donations only applied to 46 of the American states. Some unclear messages from the developers on social media just made things even worse, and they've now realised their mistake and want to redeem themselves.

They've now released a statement telling us that they've come to the conclusion that tying donations to the sales of the Forthog Orc-Slayer expansion was a mistake, so that's why they've decided to make it free, and instead make a donation directly to the Forgey family. Those of you who've already paid for the expansion will obviously get a refund, but if you still want to donate some cash to help the family, you can do that here.

What did you think of their original idea?
