The runaway success of Fortnite following the release of its Battle Royale mode has been startling, and you can certainly see why the developer behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has been upset by Epic's perceived flanking manoeuvre.

Battle Royale is a free-to-all add-on to an otherwise paid-for early access title (you can read our recent impressions of both the free PvP mode and the new paid-for PvE wave mode by hitting this link) and you could easily argue that it mimics the incredibly successful formula laid down in PUBG.

That being the case it makes sense then that Fortnite is also mimicking the success of Bluehole's all-conquering online title, with Epic recently confirming an extremely healthy concurrent player count and a respectable number of daily users. With the number of players in-game at the same time peaking at 525K, and with the studio boasting 3.7M daily users, it seems as though Epic's canny move has well and truly put Fortnite on the map.
