The Nintendo Switch has just released in another new market, the South Korean one, and it seems like it's aping the great launch success in other countries. The first data gathered indicates that the hybrid console is not only selling faster than its home console predecessors (including the Wii), but also faster than the handheld ones Nintendo DS and 3DS.

More than 55,000 consoles were sold during the launch weekend of the system in South Korea, according to Nintendo's post on a local social channel (as shared on ResetEra). In the statement, Nintendo of Korea's president Hiroyuki Fukuda celebrates the milestone and thanks consumers.

The figure is bigger than Wii's, Nintendo DS's, and Nintendo 3DS's not just in terms of the release week, but it's also bigger than those platforms' release month totals in the region.

The Nintendo Switch released in both Korea and Taiwan on December 1, adding two new Asian markets to its global availability before turning a year old. With the recent reveal that 10 million Switch consoles have been sold, it's safe to say the Switch has done Nintendo proud so far. Where do you want to see it go from here?
