A few of our longtime readers probably remember Hollowpoint, a game we even previewed twice after its original announcement back in 2014. Retro and arcade-styled, it combined Contra-like shooting action with a 2.5D perspective and co-op gameplay. It was then being created by Crackdown 2 developers Ruffian Games and was to be published by Paradox Interactive, but development was suspended in the summer of 2015 as Paradox and Ruffian severed their ties. Paradox said they'd evaluate the project before making a final decision on its future, and then we heard nothing. That is until now.

Yorkshire-based studio Red Kite Games has just announced the acquisition of the IP and the development of a new game based on the very same concept and style. It's the first home-cooked IP for the outfit, after collaborating in AAA projects with a range of publishers.

"We're really excited about Hollowpoint's universe, and it's one we can see shifting and changing as players embed themselves in the battle between the Mega-Corps," says David Roberts, Creative Director at Red Kite Games. "There's so much potential to do something really engaging with the IP. Hollowpoint's dystopian view of the future may not be all too pleasant for those living it, but for players, we're confident that the range of missions along with an ever-changing world will keep people captivated for some time to come."

One of the key features, as shown in the first trailer below, is to have the 2.5D camera switching around in an adaptive way. Besides, the levels will be procedurally generated, and there will be a bunch of boss battles.

While the original game was announced at Sony's Gamescom press conference in 2014, it appears that the game is now only heading to PC. No estimated release date has been announced for the new Hollowpoint.

Were you excited for Hollowpoint and if so does this second iteration of the game excite you as much?
